Wow, I am having the exact same problem. Only Sadie isn't completely housebroken and she will go out and mess around and then come back in and pee or poop. Yesterday my husband was home and he said she was outside more than she was inside. We have a yellow lab too and it got to the point where she didn't even want to go out with Sadie (and Maddie loves being outside).

We have started to bell train. We had bell trained Maddie when she was young, but then we ended up getting a new door and we never put the bells back up. We do have a fenced yard, which is really nice, but we have a hawk that flies around at times. So I am usually a little afraid of letting her out by herself.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would be happy to hear too.
