Please do not get a small breed dog for your child. These are not good dogs for children and are very delicate even the bigger ones. There have been maybe people on here who child has dropped, stepped on or sat on there puppy and the pup ended up need surgery or worse. If you want your child to grow up with a dog I would go with a lab or golden retriever.
