I think the biggest issue here is what to do if you see a greenish discharge before delivery. The OP did the right thing by taking her to the vet. The vet felt the best thing to do was to wait. I have been told that a bitch has a much harder time delivering a puppy if it is already dead. That could have been the case here because it seems that the bitch had a long hard labor. Perhaps the second puppy did not survive because of the long labor. We will never know. Fortunately the 3rd puppy was able to survive.
Whelping puppies can be very worrisome and sometimes tough decisions have to be made. Had the vet chose to do a c-section he might of saved all the puppies or the c-section could of caused other serious problems. Sometimes things turn out good and sometimes they don't; sadly that is the hardest part of being a dog breeder.
Anyway, I just wanted to OP to know she did a good job and I pray the momma and baby are doing okay.
