This may have been asked already..but I couldnt find exactly what I was looking for.

Im trying to grow Joeys hair out. When I first got him I wanted him to be like a show dog, long flowing hair, top knot, just beautiful...
Well, reality hit. I cant grow his hair! His first trim was around 3 months just to even him up and since he was so tiny I was scared to do it. Again at 6 months I took him in but this time I shaved him down. It was mid summer in Florida, and I felt bad for him.
Since then (hes almost a yr) he has had 1 trim and that was just to even things up a bit...but now all he does is get matts. I got some detangling spray and started using that, and his hair looks nicer and brushes easier but he still gets the matts under his arms and on his back legs where his "thunder thighs" rub together. So today, I picked up some corn starch because I heard that recommended on another post...and it didnt even get the matts out! They are so tiny that they just go through the comb teeth and it doesnt undo.
I want my little boy to have long flowing locks, but I cant figure out how to stop the tangles.

Also, I use puppy shampoo and a conditioner. I spray the detangling spray on him now each time I brush him and even directly on the matted areas. He doesnt seem to mind me brushing him or even pulling a little on the matts but I dont want to hurt him or get him upset so he doesnt like the grooming process.
