You always wonder why a parent wouldn't be getting all the help there is for a withdrawn, loner, autistic child. I hadn't heard that she hadn't been getting him help and that she was trying to help him herself! My goodness - if that is true, it's unthinkable in this day and time. That's sad to hear that he wasn't getting professional help and just so hard to understand why not.
