I know what you mean about the pee pads. Before I got Mandie, I thought it was just silly to have stuff inside one's house for a dog to go potty on. Dog's can be trained to go outside. That's that. Then a Yorkie came into my life and I completely changed my tune. At first, I said she needs pee pads because she's so young and can't hold it if I'm away too long. Then, I came to understand that they really are harder to housebreak than most dogs (any dog I've ever had anyway). Now, I'm thinking even if she is completely housebroken, I'll be keeping the pee pads cuz of days like today..rain, rain, rain ..non-stop rain. "Go pee on the pee pad, Sweetie" and off she goes..so much easier (smh at myself lol)

P.S. I forgot to add that when I read the first several posts on this thread, I was thinking, "Maybe they are just trying to get more fiber..." hehe (bad joke, I know)
