I'm glad you are taking him in. I hope it is not LP also but it is best that you know what you are dealing with. If he is having problems at such a young age you might want to consider getting some pet steps so you can help prevent any damage to his joints over time. I know many here on YT use them. I once had a bed that was very high up but ended up taking it off the frame and also getting some steps for Gracie. That may sound extreme but Gracie is small and she does sleep on the bed. Some use them for other furniture as well.
If your vet feels a supplement would be useful you will have a recent weight to be able to calculate an accurate dosage for him.
