If you are already having an issue like this with him, and you can not keep him from jumping down from heights, I personally would start it, as it does help joint health....you may already have an issue with LP or hip issues....start nipping it in the bud....stop jumping from heights (off beds, chairs, couches, etc) and start with joint supplementation with the Cosequin....I have my two little "afflicted" seniors also on Healthy Extension Vet Choice Holistic Little Bites....they LOVE this dog food and is specifically geared towards joint health....they will send you a small sample bag before you order.
