I am the owner of a yorkie/silky mix that was given to me and my husband by a friend after she bred her silky. She was not a breeder and this was her 1st and last attempt at breeding. I would not give anything in the world for my Huey. He is my heart. That being said, I had him fixed as soon as he was old enough. I feel it irresponsible for backyard breeders to bring potentially unhealthy and unwanted, unregistered dogs into the world. If someone wants a dog and doesn't care about papers, the local humane society's are full of loving, great dogs that need homes....many of which are the products of backyard breeders. Our 1st dog was a humane society lab mix mutt and we loved him for 13 years. It took 5 years to get over that loss and I would probably still not have a dog today had it not been for our friend convincing my husband that we needed one of her pups. We saw him the day after he was born and finally picked him out of the litter of 6 within a few weeks. We got to know him before we brought him home and he named himself. He turned out to be the "fatty" of the litter and so became "baby Huey" That is the story of how we became furbaby parents almost 4 years ago to the most beautiful, entertaining little 7 lb bundle of love that a person could ask for. He was born 2 days after Valentines day, so really is a love baby. If not for our friend, my next dog would also have (eventually) been a humane society rescue and I'm sure any future animals will be, too.
