Definitely microchip. You hear stories everyday of a dog that got lost ("he never leaves my side.." or "he never even goes outside.."). Anything can happen. Microchip and make sure they always have a collar with ID tags. Don't be the one that thinks "that will never happen to my dog." It can for sure. Arm yourself with every tool available to help find your dog if that happens.
Everything I just said are Pros to microchipping.
