There is a "small" increased risk of mammary cancer, but nary a one for pyometra.l Well actually there is something called stump pyometra which spayed females can get! - how ever that is pretty rare. And btw dogs spayed at 6mths or earlier can still get mammary cancer; that is why if you have a female dog spayed or not you should be palpating all the nipples and surrounding area frequently.
