The problem with doing it at 6 months is that not all baby teeth have had a chance to fall out. I got Mandie spayed at 6 months and he said it was too early to tell if she needed some pulled. I know for a fact that she still had both sets of canines on top and bottom at that time, but the bottoms have come out on their own. Only the top has ended up needing to be pulled. She's 8 months today and I just wish I'd waited.
