Country or city, you should not let the dog run loose to potty, anything could happen especially since it sounds like your Dad did not stay out there with her. There have been lots of stories here about hawks, another where a dog picked up an owl dropping and had to be hospitalized. You said the person did not stop that hit her, they might not have even known they hit something. Small dogs especially yorkies since they are dark are often not spotted by drivers so they can get hit much more easily. Small dogs also can get much sicker if they pick up and eat something off the ground like a dead bird, wild life droppings, bones from peoples garbage. Also yorkies are hunters or ratters from way back and I have hardly seen a yorkie that will not chase after a squirrel if given the chance, I know all of mine would have ran right out into the street in pursuit if given the chance, so something like that is probably what happened. Good luck with the puppy and now is the time to start training her by leash, it's much harder to change them once their habit is established. Good luck
