Default The Pee Pee Rant

So I moved to a new apartment about 3 months ago and now have some really great new neighbors and some really awful new neighbors. The awful ones are why I am writing this. First, Hepburn needs to go out, when I am home, about every 3 hours. Some days, this is very often as I am home all day. Some days this is 3-4 times a day as I am out and about. On the days when I am out and about, we walk around the block each time I take him out (about 10-15 minutes total) and he has his wee wee pads when I am not home. On the days that I am home, we walk in the morning, the afternoon and the evening around the block, but the other times I just take him up the street and back so he can do his business in peace and then we go back inside. I always pick up his poo, and I never let him pee on buildings, cars or in people's yards. I live in a big city, so I try to be careful that he is going in places where it won't bother people. This means he tends to go at the edge of the sidewalk and in the areas around trees (sometimes on trees, he is a boy after all!). There is a green area nearby, but it has a lot of large dogs off leash at almost all hours of the day, and it makes me very uncomfortable taking him there since he was attacked last year.

This morning, after taking our long walk, I checked my mailbox since I had been gone over the weekend and found a long note from a neighbor that my dog is ruining the tree in front of their building. He does pee on that tree most often, but not every time I take him out and I try to take him to other areas to avoid the smell in front of the building. I already had a mean neighbor yell at me for not taking him far enough away to pee and now she won't even respond to my greetings when I see her. I have a feeling this is now the same neighbor writing me a note, but since it is not signed, I can't tell. It states that dog urine can kill trees over time and that dogs should therefore not pee on any trees. I find this, especially for a boy dog in a big city, really difficult to follow. Where else should he pee? Now buildings, cars, motorcycles, bushes, green areas near playgrounds, gardens or green areas next to buildings, the sidewalk, the street and trees, including the areas around them, are all off limits?! Where should I take him to pee? I don't want problems with the neighbors, but I am not sure what to do. It is not illegal to let him pee there, but who wants to deal with these passive-aggresive notes?

Sorry, I just had to get that out. I wanted to leave to University early today and now I am so upset by this, I have been researching the legality of the whole thing rather than working on my thesis paper at the library...

Thanks for listening to my rant.
