A LOT of dogs do this. Most of the time it's because something's lacking from their diet usually Protein or some form of vitamen. Even though we try and do everything we can for them sometimes it's just not enough. I know it sounds strange but Guinea Pigs do this (Eat their poop) to help retain a form of Vitamen B that they can't the first time through. Now that doesn't justify your's and other peoples dog doing this but it does give us some insight into why they may.
How much does your dog weigh? I would ask your vet what you could do about it. They make coprophagia tablets you can buy at your local PETsMART or PETco but it's recommended dose starts out for dogs ten pounds and over. By asking your vet he/she may be able to determine just how much would be appropriate for your dog. Coprophagia tablets are made to help deter your dog from eating poop. I hope this helps. |
