Is the shelter going to take any responsibility for your vet expenses? It seems like they should since you are just fostering. If the vet bills are a problem you may want to talk to the shelter or another rescue about helping out. I don't know how much an ultrasound will cost but it will certainly give you some answers that you need right now. After that initial cost the delivery of the pups would be your next concern. If she does have them all naturally then that would save you the cost of a c-section. Taking care of a litter of puppies is a big responsibility and the expenses can add up but not nearly as much as a c-section would sky rocket your costs.

Since she was a stray chances are that the puppies will not be purebred. Someone with a purebred pregnant Yorkie would be searching high and low for that dog. But an accidental mixed litter they may not care about so much. That would be my concern because small dogs tend to have more problems giving birth and when they mate with a larger dog that just increases the chances of trouble. So see what the shelter has to say about helping with the expenses ahead of time.
