I know this question has been asked a million times, and I know there are a million different answers to said question ..... but I was wondering what your opinion is as to when I should have Dexter neutered?
Clyde was not neutered until he was two years old. He was never bred or anything. I just wasn't very educated about the importance/benefits of altering
dogs that are only kept as pets. For Clyde's safety, however, I had him neutered (larger male dogs constantly tried to attack him).
Dexter is almost five months old now, and weighs eight pounds. I am not sure how much bigger he will get. I know that he looks giant, but most of that is because of his cotton/soft coated hair. I think he will be ten or eleven pounds full grown. He is AKC registered and everything, but only by birth right (he does not fit the standard for AKC).
There are people out there that want to breed with him?? People out there love his coat and want to try and duplicate it with the puppies. While puppies are adorable and everything I am not one to breed dogs for the sake of puppies & money. I believe breeding should be left to the professionals who breed to improve the breed and do it out of love of the dog breed. While Dexter is very handsome his coat is difficult to take care of and is not the set standard of the breed.
Anyways ..... now I am rambling lol
SO ... When should I have him neutered?
Now?
A certain month in age?
A certain year?
(Dexter is the black one. They thought it would be fun to dig a giant hole outside in our grass. They succeeded)
