A puppy does not even develop the capacity to start to hold back urine until they are at least 16 weeks old. The muscle that is needed to hold back urine is not developed until then. They will try to get to the right area if they are being taught. They must be near the potty area to be able to use it.
An adult trained Yorkie can hold it for a few hours but it is also going to depend on how much it has drank. A dog has to have water through out the day so it needs to be able to have potty breaks. Some dogs will hold it for a long time but that does create stress on the bladder and kidneys due to back up of waste in the body. Eventually the organs will give out due to stress and will end up with kidney problems as well as other issues in the body. |
