I am certainly praying for you both today. I haven't had to hand Gracie over since her spay but I know the feeling you are having. To see the little face looking at you trying to understand why you are handing them over is hard to take.
Most likely he will be asleep most of the time he is gone so he is not as fearful as you are right now and it takes a while to wake up from the anesthesia.
