My mom had to put 2 of her dogs to sleep. One of old age and another was a 7 yr old Scottie who had bladder cancer. My mom always told me that she just knew when it was time. The first dog was our family dog who was 16 yrs old and the dog couldn't even move to get up to go to the bathroom. My mom knew at that point that it was time. With our Scottie, she wouldn't move at all and any time she tried to, we could tell she was in pain. Even urinating for her was severly painful and my mom made the decision to put her down. Both times, the vet told my mom that she did the right thing at the right time.
I'm sorry that you are asking this question cause I assume you are trying to make this decision as well. If your dog is in pain and there isn't anything vets can do, then it's probably time. You could also ask your vet. I would hope a vet wouldn't tell you to put down a pet unless they thought it was the right thing to do as well. |
