The neighbors can be bad, I’d prefer one where I have two levels and no one is above or below me. In some areas those would be called townhouses. Otherwise, you’re either mad at their noise, or they are mad at your noise, (dogs barking). Some condos take steps to reduce noise with good sound proofing, or having only one common wall. This seems to be the biggest thing people don’t like.
The good is you get a lot more house for the money, but you don’t really own the land, just the house, you also can get many fringe benefits, such as swimming pools, spas , and exercise rooms, etc, but these amenities vary greatly in what it will cost you in your association fees. Condos don’t tend to appreciate as fast as single family homes, so you should keep this in mind, but on the other hand, they are easier to rent out should you decide to keep it as an investment. I think they can be great for a single lady who is downsizing, and doesn’t want yard work, but I would always need some type of small yard or patio for flowers and plants. |
