It sounds like the people who are the happiest long term with it choose a mottled type of color, in other words not a solid color. Here's another site that describes how you should take care of your Marmoleum. They recommend cleaning with their floor products and also using there floor finishers as time goes by. A floor finish is a surface covering that protects the lower layers and gives the top coat an even appearance. If you can only use the manufactures products, it will increase the cost of maintaining the floor.

I really think ceramic or porcelain tile with small grout lines is the easier product to maintain, especially if the floor is in an area likely to get wet.
