He is so cute messy.
If you don't want to go drastic the first time I would just get him trimmed, body and face. I don't have them cut around Ahi's eyes and it has grown out and lays flat and doesn't bother or irritate her. Easier than when it's trimmed and when it grows out it starts to poke her in the eyes. I agree with the others, find a pic you like and take it to a groomer where you feel comfortable and they will let you watch. Maybe even a mobile groomer if you have one there.
