Normally I would think a healthy dog should be able to go up and down steps but I had a bad experience with uncarpeted stairs. We once had a Shih Tzu and some uncarpeted stairs. He had no problem going up and down the stairs until one day my daughter came home from school and went running upstairs with the dog right behind her. The dog slipped and tumbled down about 7 or 8 steps. Off to the vet we went when I got home from work! He was limping badly. Thankfully he did not break anything but he was a hurting little guy for a couple of weeks.
I went out and purchased carpet blocks and glued them to the steps until I was able to have them carpeted properly. It wouldn't be hard to carry the little guy up and down the steps. He may very well be spirited enough to tackle them but with him being so small the chances of him slipping are pretty good. I would just try to avoid that if at all possible. |
