As was already mentioned puppies that are taken away from the mom and litter mates so young often do not learn bite inhibition. The will just bite the nearest hand because they have not been taught by mom and the litter mates that this is bad. When your boyfriend sticks his hand in your dogs face he is just asking for some teeth.
To train a dog properly you have to be consistent. Boyfriend and you need to teach your puppy that hands are not for playing. When he approaches to bite you must say "NO!" each time and give the dog something he can chew like a toy or a bully stick. Some forms of play with a puppy just teach it bad habits. Don't play tug or any type of game that incites the emotions of the puppy. Keep him calm. He is a terrier and terriers have an inborn instinct to bite and shake prey. Your hand is what he is using to practice this inborn instinct. If he does get a hold of your hand let it go limp. Don't fight. Then take his mouth and gently remove it from your other hand. Trying to pull your hand from his mouth only incites him to bite harder. Since he is already well intrenched in this habit it may take some time to train this method of play out of him. Remember, he is doing what his genes tell him to do. It is up to you to redirect that instinct to the appropriate object, like a toy.
It sounds like you need to start watching him a little closer with his pooing. Many dogs have a hard time getting it on the pad because they don't want to step on the already peed on areas of the pad. I had to get another pad and frame for Gracie to poo on because once she went pee she wanted no part of pooing on that pad. If you don't want to use an extra pad you may just have to change it more often. Watch him and when he looks like he is going to poo get him to the pad and try to keep him on it until he is done. Scolding after the deed is done does not work but rewarding after he gets it right will click. You just have to help him get it right so he can be rewarded.
Since you don't walk your little guy to help wear off the energy you need to find ways of exercising him inside your apartment. When weather is bad here I play some indoor fetch with Gracie. Exercise is really important especially when they start to act hyper or in your case aggressive. These dogs are little but they still have tons of energy that need an outlet. In order not to be the object of that energy you need to find ways of running it off. |
