About 25 yrs. ago I too was the recipient of towels. DH was crushed that I wasn't more excited. He had been so proud of his selection. With that puppy dog look, he said, "but I even picked out ones that matched the curtains".
Thankfully, he was young, trainable, and a fast learner. Wow, Debbie, you got towels AND socks. I just got towels. Well, I did get washcloths too. Hmmm, he and I will be discussing this tonight! I think he owes me socks.
