I don’t think just because you have young children you should get an adult dog. If you get a puppy and you have young children, you just have to watch them interact more than you would watch with an older dog. All dogs are different, either way you have to train them, and watch them, you have to also teach your children what to do and what not to do… I would never allow a child to pick up a puppy, that is something I would teach my kids.
I think it is very manageable to raise a puppy with children, it can be done. I grew up with dogs, we had a couple puppies. I remember those fond memories.. nothing like having a puppy and growing up with it.
I believe it is a matter of finding the right breed with your family.
