I visited a couple of different groomers until I found one that I liked. The fact is that groomers have no regulation. In most states there is no qualification to be a groomer. Anyone can pick up the clippers and start a "grooming" business. The chain store grooming places take people off the street and train them at the store or send them to their own class for a few hours then turn them loose as a "groomer."
I would never leave my baby at a groomer that I did not know. Many groomers only know how to bathe and shave. Sadly, that is all many owners want. They let their dog go until they are extremely unpleasant looking and then take them to have their fur cut down.
I stayed with my girl the first couple of times she went to her present groomer. When I was sure she was in a good trust worthy environment I started leaving her but only for the time it takes to have her groomed which is no more than an hour and a half.
If a groomer does not make you and your dog comfortable and refuses to do the type of cut you want then keep on going until you find one that will. The person you describe sounds like she probably is a bathe and shave "groomer." They rake in the money by giving a dog a bath and running some clippers all over the dog. It takes no skill or experience. You could do that yourself. I guess that is why many people have resorted to doing their own grooming. |
