I guess they should be happy their husbands got them anything at all. My ex husband never, ever, ever gave me a Christmas gift, ever.
I buy my own now and tell my husband "you got me this for Christmas". That way, I'm never disappointed, I always get what I want, in the right size and color and I know I will love it.
