I think it's great that you are thinking this through. Do you have the opportunity to come home during lunchtime? 7:30 - 5:00 is a very long time for any dog, but especially a very small one. And puppies need so much attention for the first couple years. Have you thought about getting another cat instead? I think cats do much better being alone for long work days.
