I also trained him to ring a bell to tell him he needs to and then I take him outside, so when my husband and I are home Maxi rings the bell to go potty outside. He hasn't had any accidents for about two weeks (he's only 4.5 months).

Thank you. I am also considering using the bell training method. I want my dog to use the pads if needed when I am not there and alert me to take outside when I am. How long did it take for Maxi to learn the bell method? How did you begin? Ring the bell then take him outside? If so, how are you going to help him differentiate that ringing the bell does not mean go outside and play, it means go potty?
