If you have any kind of a build up material in the ears you should take your dog to the vet and have it identified so it can be properly treated.
The perfect answer We have just had a bout with ear mites so I have my eyes open for any scratching or head shaking now. My vet saw them as I had never been aware that dogs could get stuff in their ears. You learn something new all the time with these little pumkins. She is fine now and didn't pass the mites along to my other dogs.
