Ears should be clean and not need much maintenance. If your dog has an accumulation of stuff in the ears it could be from ear mites or a fungus infection. They both produce a brownish waxy substance.

When bathing you should always avoid getting water in the ears as water in the ear helps to cause fungus infections. Always dry the inside of the ears with a cotton swab or just plain cotton after a bath.

If you have any kind of a build up material in the ears you should take your dog to the vet and have it identified so it can be properly treated.
