Your 8 week old puppy will not start having the ability to hold back urine until it is about 16 to 18 weeks old. Even then it is going to be hit and miss. These babies have small bladders and need to be near the potty at all times. Don't let him wander. Are your puppy pads treated with the attractant that draws the pup by scent to the pad? Some are better than others. You could try a liquid housebreaking aid that they sell in the stores. It has a hormone in it that causes the pup to want to pee on it. Just put the liquid on the pad. You will still need to be putting him on the pad regularly.
It is kind of hard when they are so young to outside train because you can't really tell if they have pottied yet. You can try taking him outside with the potty pad once is knows that is where he is supposed to go.
It is going to take a lot of training to teach him his potty rules but be kind and consistent and he will learn. Congratulations on your new baby and welcome to YT. |
