If your breeder will let you see them the day they are born you will see some tiny babies that look pretty much the same. Color changes as they get older usually. All they do is sleep and eat for the first two weeks so it is hard to get a great deal of insight into the personality. Since they generally dock around the 3rd day after birth you would still be making a decision that is not based on much knowledge of the puppy. Some people who know the breeder and love the line they are breeding will do that just to get a puppy on the waiting list. If they breed consistently quality pups then there is no harm in it.
