My boys make sounds, it kinda sounds like the 'catch' you're talking about. It resembles cheetah sounds, how the mom will call out to her cubs, the sounds are very distinct & it comes from the throat. I just love those little sounds they make all the time. Never had another breed so vocally and otherwise self-expressive as a Yorkie! Mine have all been spoiled rotten as old eggs!!!
