The only reason people are hesitant to buy cameras in the D3000 or D5000 range which includes the D3200 is that they require the use of lenses that have a motor built into them. The cameras don't have focusing motors built into them, so they need lenses that have them. All of the current lenses have motors in them, but the older lenses don't, so if you have older lenses like I do or if you need something that hasn't been updated, they can't be used on the cameras. There are so many excellent current lenses that it shouldn't cause a problem.
For anyone who doesn't want to use something the size of a D-SLR, the new 4/3 cameras look great. I haven't used any of them and wouldn't replace it with my other cameras, but they look great to use if you want something really small. Thom Hogan is someone who really knows everything Nikon. I always read his reviews, and I purchased his e-book about my camera which is so much better than the manual that comes with it. Nikon D3200 Review by Thom Hogan |

You are seriously my photography lifesaver and I think I finally found the camera I want to save up for. Phew!
I was wondering, lenses that have motors in them, are they able to be used on the older cameras? I can see how the old lenses wouldn't be able to be used on newer cameras though. I don't think it's too big of a deal either, I was just curious.
