I use Photoshop for work (graphic design) and although there is soo much to learn with all of the tools, the basics are fairly easy for a beginner. You can usually download a free 30 day trial online to see if you like it before buying. I also use Paint Shop Pro-which is similar. You can get a free trial of that online as well
