I'd get him checked out just in case. The damage from sugarless products is not always outwardly visible. I'd tell the vet about his voracious appetite for non-food items as well, ask him about Pica. I hope your little one is just fine. It might be a good idea to put him in an ex-pen when you're not home, or when he can't be watched closely. A pee pad, some food and water and a bed and toys would make it comfy for him.
