She stayed lethargic and non-responsive so we took her in. On the way, she vomited and lost control of her bowels. After 40 minutes from the first incident, she started rousing up some. Vet had just seen her Friday. She got her 2nd shots and had a parasite so we started her on antibiotic. Vet said appeared to be hypoglycemia. I leave her food out all day. She gets treats. She also had a full tummy. I have 2 older yorkies and they never had this. Vet sent her home with a supplement to give 2 times daily. She has eaten some and slept on me mostly this afternoon. I am scared to death. I need some ideas to try and keep this from happening again. Have any of you experienced this? |
Hello..so sorry to hear that you are having this problem. I had hypoglycemia as well with my young pup. I got her end of Sep at 8wks. She was HG from the next day and for the next few weeks. We spent a lot of time at the vets rooms. I fed her every two hrs for the next month then went to three hrly. I syringed a solution of honey when I saw she was getting lethargic and fed her about 10mins later. Sometimes she wouldn't eat what was being offered. The best advice I was eventually given was from a local breeder who said..eating is not negotiable ..if she won't eat, liquidize her food and syringe it. I did this often and she just got stronger and stronger. She is now 14wks and I haven't had any lows for about two/three wks. She has gained weight and is energetic and playful and very sharp. She also had a worm infestation and needed meds for a while and that took away her appetite ..it was a vicious circle. Good luck and I'm sure she will come right. Ax
