I'm not going to be much help with the crate thing, Blazer is as big now as I thought he'd get and he's only 5 months old! I'm afraid that he is going to outgrow his crate, too, but the others I find always seem TOO big!
As for sleeping through the night I had really good luck by making sure Blazer went potty before bed then covering his kennel at bedtime. The first couple of weeks I had him in a downstairs bathroom so it was dark and quiet but the first couple of nights he'd wake up once to potty. I treated him like I did my kids when they would wake at night- no play, just potty then back to bed. After I moved the kennel next to my bed Blazer started sleeping longer in the morning, which was awesome! He was sleeping through the night after having him at home only two nights, it was great!
