Since puppies often have growth spurts where they are ravenous one day and not so hungry the next day, many breeders recommend free feeding. This is when you have food in their bowl, 24/7. Don't worry about overfeeding the first 6 months. The dog food usually tells you how much to feed per day, but I just kept at least 1/4 cup of food in his bowl at all times.
