You're correct. What's "typical" for most breeds may not apply to yorkies. Yorkies are smaller so that may impact when to spay. Also, as others have mentioned, some like to wait to have the teeth develop to a point where the vet can remove some of the baby teeth without leaving your baby toothless. And, there is a suggestion to wait until after the first heat cycle. (Other members will have to enlighten you on the reasoning for that.)

About 6 months is more or less accurate, but it may also depend upon how your baby develops.
