Default Yorkie Hit by car

Yesterday my yorkie was hit by a car. We rushed him to an emergency vet. At this time he could not move his back legs. Aside from that he looked fine. The vet did an xray on him and noticed a very small hairline fracture in his spine on the 6th vertebrae. Everything else with him is fine and spianl cord is fine and the spine has not moved. The vet told me if his swelling does not go down in 24 -48 hours and he cannot move his legs you should put him to sleep. This morning, not 12 hours after the accident he is wiggling his paws, when the vet puts pressure against his feet he pushes back and he has feeling again in his legs. The vet said there is still a -25% of recovery although the fact that he is moving only 12 hours later is encouraging.

Should I be getting my hopes up or is there ultimately no recovery from this. Is there a chance that he can heal from this and the vertebrae will eventually heal?

This happened out of town and he is not with our regular vet who is great.

Has anyone experienced what I'm talking about?
