The Biewer Yorkshire Terrier originated in Germany at the hand of a breeder named Biewer in 1984. Two standard colored yorkshire terriers produced a beatiful piebald, tri-colored puppy. The Yorkshire terrier was developed by mixing various other terriers and possibly the maltese and so these recessive genes come to the surface every once in a while. Instaed of eliminating thme from his lines, Mr. Biewer decided to breed "FOR" the beautiful color variation and the Biewer Yorkshire was recognized as it's own breed in Germany in the 1980s. The standard is the same as for the Yorkshire Terrier with the exception of color.

I found this site to be full of good info on the Biewer. A google search will bring up a lot of good info to read.
