Peanut had really bad anxiety in the car.. he would pant, try to go back and forth and just not enjoy the ride..

Then we got him a booster car seat. He loves car rides now!

The one I have looks like this..

You can find them online, they are called Pet Gear Booster Car Seats

I put it in the back seat in the middle, you can also put it in the front seat. The back works better for me- I can just leave it back there and don't have to move it around if I have someone else in my car.
