I have wood - and I love it - I considered laminate but opted for wood and I have had no problems at all with it. This week Rowdy decided to pee on it (it was raining outside and OMG, that he would get WET!) and I didn't find it till it was completely dry. There was no stain, no odor, no nothing - I was very relieved to see how well it withstood the peeing episode (which I knew would eventually happen).
My daughter had laminate and the only thing that I didn't like about it was the clicking sound it made when you walked across it in anything except rubber soled shoes (but that may be related to the type of laminate - I don't know).
Also, my daughter's lab knocked everything off the top of her desk and I'm not sure what it was that landed on the laminate floor, but it scratched it BADLY (actually part of the laminate chipped off) and that part of the flooring had to be replaced.
