So true one must balance all the risks and benefits. The actual surgery on a healthy dog is of minimal risk. But that there are other factors involved; such as what is the long term benefit first health wise, and then environment wise. For example can I as an owner adamantly care for an un-neutered pet and keep them safe from 1) harm, and 2) inadvertent breeding.

I do so hope that one day, we shall see other options being offered to pet owners; to help insure that their pets can't breed, without the smallish risk of surgery, and the larger risk of health issues down the road.
