I know many people died during Katrina that did not have to because they would not leave their animals.

The mayor of NYC did announce on television that people could take their pets to the shelters. He did not give specifics. He just said 'bring your pets. We don't want you to leave them behind.'

People in the north east are not accustomed to evacuating their homes but with the kind of crazy weather the whole country is experiencing it is a good idea to make plans ahead of time concerning what you would do if you had to leave your home. There are now millions on the east coast without electricity in the cold. Preparing for electrical outages is another thing that all should be thinking about. The people of NY, NJ and PA are facing being without power for weeks.
