Some Advice from my local news paper: Emergency Shelters and Pets
Some shelters have requirements that include. 1. Pets must be crated when inside at all times. 2. Proof of Rabbies shot 3. No excessive noise from pets. 4. Owners must provide pet food and dishes for their pets. 5. Pet waste must be disposed of in a safe and sanitary way as posted. 6. Dangerous, exotic, disruptive or aquatic animals will be permitted in the shelter.
Depending on the shelter, rules can vary considerably. Please find out the location and requirements of your own, local pet friendly shelter, before things become a crisis.
